Machupicchu is one of the new seven marvels of the modern world

Thousands of Peruvians celebrate the election of the Inka citadel Machu Picchu as one of seven new marvels of the modern world. This Inka sanctuary was chosen on Saturday, the 7th of July with The Great Wall China, Petra in Jordan, the statue of the Christ Redeemer in Rio of Janeiro in Brazil, Chichén Itzá's pyramid in Mexico, the Roman Coliseum in Italy, and the Taj Mahal in India.
Here some information of Machu Picchu:
In the 15th century, the Incan Emperor Pachacútec built a city in the clouds on the mountain known as Machu Picchu ("old mountain"). This extraordinary settlement lies halfway up the Andes Plateau, deep in the Amazon jungle and above the Urubamba River. It was probably abandoned by the Incas because of a smallpox outbreak and, after the Spanish defeated the Incan Empire, the city remained 'lost' for over three centuries. It was rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911. New seven marvels of the modern world here.
