Ubicación
Perú se encuentra en la parte central occidental de Sudamérica frente al océano Pacifico en la parte Oeste.
Área
Un total de 496,220 millas cuadradas, dividida en tres áreas geográficas: la Costa, la Sierra y la Selva.
Población
Perú cuenta con una población estimada de 26.000.000 de habitantes. En la costa vive el 54,6% de la población peruana, la región andina alberga el 32% y en el llano amazónico sólo vive el 13,4% de la población total.
Lengua
Español con un 80% de lectura y escritura. El quechua es también una lengua oficial. El Aymara es hablado por personas cercanas al lago Titicaca (Puno) y docenas de lenguas son habladas por habitantes indígenas de la Amazonia.
Religión
Católica Romana: 95%.
Protestante y otras: 5%.
Clima
Los climas varian según las áreas geográficas:
- Costa: el invierno (Mayo-Octubre) tiene promedio de 14°C/57°F y el verano (Noviembre-Abril) tiene promedio de 27°C/81°F.
- Sierra: las temperaturas varían de 18°C/64°F durante el día a 3°C/37°F por la noche. La estación lluviosa dura de Diciembre a Marzo.
- Selva: Caluroso y húmedo, con lluvias esporádicas durante el año. Tiene promedio de 30°C/86°F
Moneda
La moneda local es "El Nuevo Sol" (1 Dolar Americano = 2.9815 Nuevo soles, Junio 2009). Los Dólares Americanos son aceptados en las ciudades grandes del Perú. Tarjetas de crédito están aceptadas en su totalidad: VISA, Diners, Master Card, American Express.
Location
Peru is centrally located on the western coast of the South American continent.
Land Area
There is a total of 496,220 square miles of land, divided in three geographic areas: the Coast, the Sierra, and the Jungle.
Population
Peru has a population of about 26 million inhabitants. 54.6% of these in habitants dwell along the coast, with 32% living in the Andean Sierra, and only 13.4% in the vast Amazon region.
Languages
Spanish is the predominant language with a literacy rate of about 80%. Quechua is also an official language. The Aymara language is spoken by people close to Lake Titicaca- in the state of Puno- and dozens of different languages are spoken by the indigenous peoples in the Amazon region.
Religion
Catholic: 95%.
Protestant and others: 5%.
Climate
The Climate varies according to the geographic region:
- The Coast- Winter (May- October) has an average of 14°C/57°F and during the summer (November-April) there is an average of 27°C/81°F.
- The Sierra- the temperatures vary from 18°C/64°F during the day to 3°C/37°F at night. The wet season lasts from December to March.
- The Jungle- Hot and humid, with scattered showers throughout the year, with an average temperature of 30°C/86°F.
Money
The Local money is "El Nuevo Sol" (1 American dollar= 2.9815 Nuevo soles, June 2009). The dollar is accepted in the large cities of Peru. All credit cards are accepted. Visa, Diners, MasterCard, American Express.
